Robert Gordon Cartographer
- Name : Gordon of Straloch
- Born : 1580
- Died : 1661
- Category : Other
- Finest Moment : Publication of Pont's maps, 1654
Born at Straloch, near Inverurie in Aberdeenshire, Gordon was the very first graduate of Aberdeen's Marischal College. As a cartographer, he was asked by Sir John Scot of Scotstarvet to rescue Timothy Pont's maps from the archives of James VI, where they were slowly rotting away.
He revised and completed the maps, amongst the very earliest of Scotland, and they were then published in the Scottish section of Blau's Atlas of The World (1654). His grandson Robert founded Aberdeen's Robert Gordon's College.
