Aultbea
Small village to the South west of Ullapool on Loch Ewe with views to Torridons and Isle of Lewis
The nearby Gruinard Island, one of the first locations for chemical weapons testing means that there was a lot of military activity here during the war. These waters were also the location for convoys to gather before setting out for Murmansk and the Arctic convoy route - a fact commemorated at the Poolewe Hotel.
The setting is charming and the location tranquil.
